The pallasites was first discovered in 1794, are very rare, with only about 50 known. These meteorites are mixtures of iron-nickel metal and translucent, gem-quality crystals of the green mineral olivine. This is a single slice of one of the 50 known. It weighs 45 grams and has been coated in clear bubble free epoxy for protection. The Sericho pallasite formed at the mantle-core boundary of an asteroid about 4.5 billion years ago.
